In 1987, I chanced upon a re-enactment of the installation of General Robert E. Lee as Commander of the Army of Northern Virginia.  Here was a world of 125 years ago recreated.  During the next twelve years, I followed the troops, Yankees and Rebels, and photographed with pinhole cameras at large and small re-enactments, on or near original Civil War sites.  Images from Civil War Redux capture both authenticity and anachronism.  While recording the activities of historically accurate re-enactors, sometimes a reminder of the present slipped in.
